My name is Diana Soriano, I am bilingual, bicultural, and I am a UIC Alumna. I advise students in the College of Business Administration and the College of Education. When I am not in the office, I immerse myself in the UIC environment and enjoy exploring the city of Chicago by attending concerts, lectures, and cultural events.

October Service Events Update!


Hello UIC Volunteers --  Come and G.I.V.E. (Get Involved in Volunteer
Experience!) some time in October!

Unfortunately, the Community Outreach Intervention Project (COIP) ran into a
snag with their distributor and they had to cancel our October event.  We
hope to reschedule as soon as everything gets sorted out.  In the mean
time,  we have an equally wonderful opportunity to add to October: the
Lakeview Pantry!  Please see below for the details and sign up at

*#1 OFF CAMPUS: LAKEVIEW

**What: *Volunteers will assist with working the counter, restocking food,
repacking bulk foods, sorting clothing and other various jobs.
*When:* Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 from 2pm-5pm
*Where: *1414 W Oakdale Ave, Chicago, IL 60657

*About: **Lakeview Pantry opened in 1970 with the mission of providing food
to people living below the poverty level.  It is one of the few pantries in
Chicago to offer food distribution to homeless people. They distribute
specially packaged foods that don’t require refrigeration and can be opened
without can openers to our homeless clients**.*

**What:  *Volunteers will help unload shipments of donations and stock
store.
*When:  *Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 from 1pm-4pm
*Where:* We will be meeting at the Brown Elephant on Halsted:
3651 N. Halsted St., Chicago, IL 60613

*About: **All proceeds gathered from sales at the Brown Elephant go directly
towards the Howard Brown Health Center. Howard Brown exists to eliminate the
disparities in health care experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgendered people through research, education and the provision of
services that promote health and wellness. *
