Basic Job Functions for College Match Project Advisors – Chicago Job Site

Each advisor will work independently within a high school in the Chicago
Public Schools to help a select group of approximately 40-50 high school
juniors and seniors (students) apply to appropriately selected four-year
colleges/universities. The advisors will provide related assistance to
these students through:
    * Information sharing and awareness building: Building knowledge among
students and their families around general application strategies,
financial aid, and the concept of a "match" school. Providing exposure to
more selective colleges through a combination of tours and events (e.g.,
alumni and admissions representative visits, etc.).
    * Individualized advising: Helping students identify „best fit schools
among an appropriately matched set of schools based on their individual
interests and abilities and developing a competitive transcript (e.g.,
deciding whether to re-take the ACT, determining how best to use the
summer between junior and senior year, etc.).
    * Supporting the application process: Helping students navigate the
administrative aspects of the college application process, including:
developing competitive applications and essays, procuring fee waivers,
and supporting timely completion of the FAFSA.
 * Decision-making and planning ahead: Helping students choose between
multiple acceptances and financial aid awards. Preparing for college life
and planning for a smooth transition. Developing personal goals and
support networks.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and 5-10 page
writing sample to D. Crystal Byndloss, Project Manager, at
