2/9/11 Operation Pedro Pan: Fifty Years after the Exodus its Origins and Legacy

The Latin American and Latino Studies Program at UIC* presents

Operation Pedro Pan: Fifty Years after the Exodus its Origins and Legacy

Presented by : *María de los Angeles Torres*

This talk will explore the history and legacy of Operation Pedro Pan, a U.S.
governmentsponsored program that brought over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban
minors to the United States between December 1960 and October 1962. This
winter marks the fiftieth anniversary of the beginnings of this program.
This still little known chapter of American history continues to capture the
imagination of journalists and filmmakers even as the emotional individual
stories unfold in the contentious divides of the Cold War.
