Environmental Protection Agency - Student Diversity Internship Program
Program Overview
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is looking for energetic and
highly motivated students for internships. Numerous opportunities are
available within the EPA for students to gain valuable work experience while
contributing to the mission of protecting human health and safeguarding the
environment. The objectives of the program are:
. To attract diverse groups of individuals to EPA related careers.
. To provide the necessary framework for EPA to provide requests for
student participant from Minority Academic Institutions (MAI) such as,
Hispanic Serving Institutions (HIS), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU),
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and other higher
education institutions.
. To enable college and graduate students to supplement their academic
course work with study-related work experiences in EPA offices/facilities in
the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and EPA's regional and field units
throughout the United States.
. To develop and sharpen students' skills to conduct limited research,
complete written reports and make presentations.
The EPA Student Diversity Internship Program affords capable undergraduate
and graduate students summer internship positions that will involve
scientific research or a focus on policy, business, and government
relations. This internship program will provide the student with a
comprehensive practical set of experiences and the opportunity to develop
their potential for future opportunities within the EPA.
As Program participants, interns receive an intensive 10-week assignment
during the summer, fall or spring semesters. Students will work among
leading scientists, engineers, and other top professionals to develop
professional skills and enhance leadership capabilities. The program also
provides hands on understanding of EPA careers while working full-time (20
hrs/week), on-site, at the EPA Headquarters, field office or research and
development (R&D) site.
