Fulbright DEADLINE 9/09/11

Each year UIC students apply for and win Fulbright Fellowships that send
them abroad to study, research or teach English for 8-12 months. Recent
fellows have gone (or are going this fall) to such places as India, Turkey,
Indonesia, Greece, the United Kingdom, Canada, Jordan, Thailand, Tonga,
Israel among other countries. There are two types of Fulbrights: 1) full
grants which provide support for research or study and; 2) English Teaching
Assistantships (ETA), which place students in elementary or high schools or
colleges to teach English.

Students interested in full grants can choose from over 150 countries.
Students interested in ETA grants can apply to over 70 countries.

How do you apply?

1. Review the application process at www.iie.org/fulbright
2. Think about what countries interest you and see what the individual
country requirements are. Do you need a language? Do they support the type
of work you want to do?
3. Think about what qualifies you to do the work/study or teaching you
are proposing. This is one thing that will go into your application essays.
4. Make an appointment to talk to Beth Powers at bpowers@uic.edu to get
answers to any questions you might have.
5. Visit the Office of Special Scholarship Programs to view past
applications.

The UIC Fulbright deadline is Sept. 9 and students still have time to put in
a strong application, but start soon!

Sincerely,

Beth
